Investigation finds a two-week arson campaign burned the Nuba heartland town of Kauda
An open-source investigation by the Centre for Information Resilience and Sudan Witness says satellite data shows a sustained two-week arson campaign in May burned the central market and much of Kauda — the symbolic heartland of Sudan's Nuba people and the SPLM-N rebel movement. Local doctors reported at least 61 civilians killed in related clashes. We are seeking responses from the parties involved.
Investigators say satellite imagery proves a deliberate, sustained campaign — not an accident — that torched Kauda's market and homes amid clashes between the SPLM-N and the local Ottoro tribe, in which the Sudan Doctors Network reported at least 61 civilians, including women and children, killed.
